Q. How often should I clean my Elite wig or extension?

A. If worn daily for 10 to 12 hours, they should be washed every 10 to 14 days. If styling products are used regularly, a build-up will happen, and the wig, piece or extension may need to be washed more often.

Q. How should I clean my Elite wig or extension?

A. It’s easy. Follow these simple procedures for proper cleaning and drying:
  1. Fill a clean hand sink or large bowl with 2 quarts of cool water. (Never use hot water.

  2. Add two capfuls of Elite Synthetic Hair Shampoo Concentrate to the water; swish around to blend the two, which will create wash water. (Make sure the water and shampoo are completely blended.)

  3. Place the wig or extension into the wash water; let it soak for approximately five minutes.

  4. After soaking, carefully swish the wig or extension around in the wash water for one minute.

  5. Pull the wig or extension from the wash water and discard the used wash water. Completely rinse out the sink or large bowl of all the wash water residue.

  6. Refill the sink or large bowl with clean, cool water and swish around the wig or extension to completely rinse it of the wash water. Repeat rinse if needed until water is clear.

  7. For drying wigs, place them on a collapsible wire wig stand; for extensions, lay them flat on a clean, dry towel.

  8. Lightly spray your wig or extension with Elite Synthetic Hair Leave-In Conditioner all over the top. For longer-haired wigs, spray underneath.

  9. Allow your synthetic wig or extension to air-dry naturally; it should take approximately eight hours. Once it is completely dry, you may lightly shake it and style it before wearing. (Do not use a regular hairbrush, hairdryer or heat of any kind to dry or style it.)

Q. Can I use hairspray on my Elite wig or extension?


A. It is recommended to use Elite Synthetic Hairspray, as it is designed specifically for the Elite wig or extension. This specially designed spray helps hold the styling of your Elite hair very well and washes out completely because it is water-soluble. (Never use sprays that are not water-soluble, as they will destroy the Elite hair.)


Q. What other styling products can I use with my Elite wig or extension?


A. Elite Synthetic Hair Liquid Styling Mousse is designed specifically for Elite hair and is a great volumizer in a spray bottle that adds ultra-protection, texture and body for fuller-feeling wigs and extensions. It is an absolute must for all curly styles to give them longer life.


Q. What tools can I use to style my Elite synthetic wig or extension?


A. It is recommended to use anti-static brushes as the bristle tips will not come off and are fiber-friendly. They are a must for long hairpieces. If combing is necessary, hair picks and styling combs with prongs on one end are best.


Q. How should I store my Elite wig or extension?


A. For wigs, a wire wig stand will help keep your Elite wig fresh, as well as maintain the style while you’re not wearing it. The wire wig stand is collapsible, which makes it great for packing. Extensions are kept best by lying them flat on a clean towel or hanging them in a place where they will not be disturbed.


Make sure to store your wigs or extensions in a clean, dry place to keep them away from dust and other elements, specifically sources of high heat. Never enclose your wigs or extensions in a box or plastic bag except when traveling. Note: if you have purchased one of the heat-friendly wigs, please refer to those instructions.

Styling for Heat-Friendly Synthetic Hair

  • For washing and conditioning, it is recommended to use Elite Shampoo and Conditioner.

  • We suggest using Elite’s HD Smooth & Detangle hairstyling product when curling or straightening any of our heat-friendly wigs or extensions. Just spray on and use as directed.

  • When styling, do not curl or straighten Elite Heat-Friendly Hair while wearing the wig.

  • All Elite heat-friendly wigs or extensions should be clean before curling or straightening.

  • Use electric or steam hot rollers to curl the hair.

  • Blow dryers, curling irons and other thermal tools may be used on low settings up to 320 degrees Fahrenheit. If the setting is too high or your appliance runs too hot (because they do vary) it can damage the fiber.

  • When using a flat iron, take a 1-inch section of the hair, starting at the roots, and run the flat iron over the hair to the ends. Continue this procedure until all the hair is straightened to your liking.
